A selection of songs from across Europe

of Elizabeth I to James I

Bakewell Old House Museum - Cunningham Place, Bakewell BD45 1DD

£15 per person Early Bird ticket (before 30 June 2025). £20 per person.

In the Tudor Hall, Bakewell Old House Museum, doors 6.45pm for 7.00pm. There will be a 15 minute interval. Ends 8.20pm.

Join us in the fabulous surrounding of the Tudor Hall to listen to Ayres and Graces, aka Nick and Natalie, provide a concert of late renaissance songs; mainly English, but including those from a selection of European countries.

They perform in period costume, using copies of instruments of the period. And will include a little about the instruments during their programme,
and they shall supplement the evening with some poems or short prose passages that set the scene for the music

It was common for musicians of the period to travel abroad to explore the new music that was coming out of other countries, especially Italy. John Dowland, a lutenist to James I, travelled to France, Germany, Italy and finally Denmark, being employed in both Germany and Denmark for a period of time.

---

Nick is an amateur lutenist who bought his first lute over 50 years ago. He is a retired GP, and enjoys having more time to play and develop repertoire with Natalie.

Natalie read Music and Japanese at Keele before studying at Birmingham Conservatoire. She sings a wide variety of music from the renaissance to Jazz and folk, and also works as a singing teacher and vocal coach.
